Education Process

The process of education includes a curriculum, teaching, learning modalities, and technology.

Curriculum

A curriculum is generally implemented in all forms of formal education. It includes all classes and their content as well as objectives and goals. Curricula are rigid and have specific guidelines of what topics must be taught and understood and what levels to meet a certain standard or grade. Often, curricula are developed and implemented by authoritative bodies such as national departments of education.

Core curriculum is a common type of curricula implemented in many types of educational environments. It is generally mandatory for all students and involves instruction in subjects deemed necessary for understanding. It helps establish uniform minimal educational levels. A core curriculum generally includes courses in English, mathematics, science, language, art, social studies and physical education.

Teaching

Teachers must have a solid understanding of the concepts of a particular subject to provide instruction to students. Traditionally teaching involves lecturing a group of students, but modern teaching methods involve teachers becoming designers of courses, facilitators of discussions and helping students become active learners by independently exploring content.

The main goal of all types of teaching is to facilitate thorough knowledge of a subject and development of skills that individuals will be able to use in future academic and life experiences.

Skilled teachers are able to explain information, provide personal experience and wisdom, and promote good judgment among students. The quality of teachers is one of the most important aspects to good student performance.

Learning Modalities

Learning styles are an essential part of the education field and many factors of taken into consideration to facilitate learning and manipulate educational environments. Education is generally divided into separate learning modes.

  • Visual is learning that based on observing concepts actions and seeing the idea being learned.
  • Auditory is learning that based on listening to information or instructions.
  • Kinesthetic is learning based on hands-on tasks and engaging in activities.

Technology

With today’s ever-changing world, technology is being incorporated more and more into all areas of education. Computers are often used to complement current educational practices and promote new types of learning (i.e. online education).
